HOW MARCH FOR JESUS STARTED

London MarchMarch for Jesus began as 'City March' in London in 1987.
It was formed in the seedbed of friendship amongst three church groups; Pioneer, Ichthus and Youth with a Mission and the worship leader Graham Kendrick. The leaders of that first March soon realised that they had stumbled upon a God-breathed initiative which they could only run after in obedience.

Initially expecting 5,000 to turn up to the March, it became obvious that when 15,000 Christians materialized, from different churches across the nation to pray in the pouring rain in the City of London, that God had something more in mind.

Another Praise March was called. For the first time the name 'March for Jesus' was used and this time over 50,000 Christians, from numerous church groups across the nation, gathered to pray, to worship, to lavish affection upon the One who had lavished affection upon them.

Over the next 3 years marches spread across the UK. Initially in 49 centres which then spawned hundreds of small marches. Marches then spread across Europe and North America, and finally across the world. Irrespective of denomination and church tradition, distinctions melted away and hearts melted together.
"We love Jesus" "We're here to proclaim to the nation that Jesus is Lord".

In 1994 the first Global March for Jesus covered every time zone and united over ten million Christians from over 170 nations in prayer and praise on the streets. Some were Carnivals overflowing with joy and celebration of the Good News and hope in Jesus. Other events, of necessity were low key and some even in secret.

Jesus Day 2000 logo14 years after 'City March', the final Global March for Jesus, part of Jesus Day on the 10th June 2000, a massive wave of praise rolled across the planet. This was an extravagant celebration of the birth of the first millennium child, and through His eyes, the lives of children in societies across the globe became the special focus for prayer and giving in order that children in every nation might have a better future.

Over seven million people, in thousands of communities and on every continent, took to the streets to proclaim the Lordship of Christ over the new millennium. It was the largest co-ordinated celebration of Christ in the Millennium Year.

By June 2000 it is estimated that over 60 million people in 180 nations had marched for Jesus.

March for Jesus continues in many countries in many and varied initiatives including in the USA, now called Jesus Day, many thousands of people gather to pray and march and lift up the name of Jesus.
